As the major predator of the Island, Neovenator was similar to Allosaurus (North America). It was agile and fast with large serrated teeth to attack its prey. It would have preyed upon the herds of Iguanodon, Hypsilophodon and Valdosaurus. However even Neovenator would not have been able to kill a fully grown Sauropod by itself. Neovenator is thought to be an ancestor of Carcharodontosaurus (Africa) and Giganotosaurus (South America) the biggest meat-eating dinosaur found so far. Some scientists think that like Allosaurus and Giganotosaurus, it may have hunted the giant Sauropods in packs (like "Raptors"). Since the original skeleton was found, larger Neovenator bones have been discovered. These suggest it could grow upto 10m (33ft) long. You can see some of the bones of Neovenator on display at Dinosaur Farm Museum. |
